 Full year classes:
Astronomy (2022-2023) -  Instructor: Mrs. Filipek (full year class)
Psalms 19:1 says: “The Heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” Look up. What do you see? Our universe is truly an amazing thing and the vastness of space boggles the mind. Experience the truly awesome power of God through a glimpse into His vast creation. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 8:3-4, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the Son of man that You visit him?” Discover the wonders of the night sky as we take a tour through the universe. Learn to identify stars, constellations, and even planets. We will answer important questions about the stars, planets, and the place of Earth in this vast creation. Explore numerous evidences that point to a young universe: magnetic poles of planets, the spiral shape of galaxies, comets and how long scientists think they can last, and much more.

Course Materials:
  • Taking Back Astronomy: The Heavens Declare Creation by Jason Lisle
  • Our Created Moon, Earth’s Fascinating Neighbor by Don DeYoung and John Whitcomb (book)

Fall Semester classes:

PSAT Test Prep- Instructor: Mrs. Veloso
Test Prep classes typically meet about 5-6 weeks before the actual test date to ensure your students are prepared. When signing up for these classes, please confirm that the start date is enough time for your student to prepare for their exam. Have you ever wondered about the PSAT/NMSQT Exam and the National Merit Scholarship Program? Did you know that the “NMSP gives out approximately $50 million in scholarships each year, and some colleges provide lowered — or even free — tuition for recognized students?” Do you want your child to try and qualify for recognition? Or do you just want to see if your student should later take SAT Exam? This highly interactive, fast-paced workshop is designed for the ambitious (or merely curious) middle school and high school student who intends to qualify for the PSAT/NMSQT scholarship. The PSAT-8/9 (for Middle School students) and the PSAT-10 (for 9th-10th grade students) will be covered during the course. Eventually, the student shall be able to face the rigors of the 2022 & 2023 PSAT exams. With immersion as the primary approach of this course, each student shall receive training in strategies and content. Through systematic, methodical correction, and calculated repetition, they shall be able to determine their specific learning gaps and intentionally reduce common errors throughout parts of their timed practice tests. As the semester unfolds, each student shall intuitively acquire effective test-taking skills, time-management methods, and better study habits. More than this, with study-support groups as the secondary approach of this course, the student shall experience a considerable degree of accountability as they participate in active units of rotating teams. If your student is searching for academic recognition, scholarship, and valuable tools for college admission, this course provides them with the first steps. This 90-minute test prep will meet for 5 weeks via Zoom platforms with homework and grading in PowerSchool PSAT Test date: October 12, 2022 Class meeting times: Mondays & Fridays 2:00-3:30 pm ET starting 8/29/2022

SAT Intensive Test-Prep- Instructor: Mrs. Veloso
The SAT test-prep is 7 weeks prior to the December 3, 2022 test date. To ensure your students are well prepared for the exam and when signing up for these classes, please confirm the start date and see if this is the exam date your student registered for.
Do you want to see if your student is on track for college readiness? Well, we’ve got the course for your child! This highly interactive,
fast-paced workshop is designed for college-bound student who intends to face the rigors of the SAT exam. By learning its structure and
design, the student would be able to determine how effectively they can navigate the test and then appropriately decide if the SAT best
suits their college-application needs.
According to The College Board, “The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. Since its debut
in 1926, its name and scoring have changed several times; originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, it was later called the Scholastic
Assessment Test, then the SAT I: Reasoning Test, then the SAT Reasoning Test, then simply the SAT.”
Despite its many changes through the years, rigorous preparation still puts a student ahead of the college application process. A strong
score and high percentile ranking also opens doors for many scholarship opportunities. With immersion as the principal approach of this
course, the student will be trained in strategies and content. Through systematic, methodical correction, as well as calculated repetition,
the student will be able to determine their specific learning gaps and intentionally reduce common errors throughout parts of their timed
practice tests. As the semester unfolds, the student shall intuitively acquire effective test-taking tactics, time-management methods, and
better study skills.
More than this, with study-support groups as the second approach of this course, the student shall experience a considerable degree of
accountability as they participate in active units of rotating teams. The review shall focus on the three main sections of the SAT: the SAT
Reading, SAT Writing/Language, and SAT Math. Students shall heavily focus on one subject section of the test and learn to navigate
through all the different question types for each subject domain. At the commencement of this boot camp, the student is expected to have
successfully gone through four, full practice tests and four, timed essays. As they have gained familiarity and a sizable degree of
proficiency, the hardworking scholar shall then be able to translate their personal-best score into the real SAT Exam.
This 90-minute test prep will meet for 7 weeks via Zoom platforms with homework and grading in our online classroom. This class is best suited
for the 11th-12th Grader. Will consider 9th-10th Grade based on prerequisites.
SAT Test date: December 3, 2023
Class meeting times: Tuesdays & Fridays 10:00-11:30 am ET.
Start: 10/11/2022 (Orientation)
End: 11/25/2022 (Mock Exams/Finals)

Note: While we can’t guarantee increased standardized test scores, students will get out of the course what they put into it. For the best
chance at a great test-taking experience, participation in all aspects of the course is recommended. This test-prep workshop is not at all like a typical high school course with the standard lecture setup. Each class(1) is fast-paced and highly interactive where each 90-minute session is filled with discussions, activities, recitation, drills, and timed tests (2) will have team meetings designed for extra accountability (and fun) for the students within the week. During these lab-like, team sessions, the instructor will be giving students the extra support they need to navigate through the course. This test-prep workshop is not a substitute for any Reading, Writing, Math, or Science high school core subject. It is a “review” and purely supplementary in nature. Although this workshop may be used as a diagnostic tool, it assumes that a student already has the necessary foundation to prepare for a national standardized exam, such as the SAT.
Prerequisites (any of the two):  PSAT/SAT/ACT Minimum NPR Ranking: 65%,  Algebra 2: Successful Completion (80% or higher),  or concurrent class with math teacher’s recommendation.
